Twilight vs. Harry Potter

Fri Dec 19, 2008, 3:06 AM
  • Listening to: silence, be quiet it's at my favorite part
  • Reading: what do u think? O.o
  • Watching: whatever is on USA
  • Playing: FFIII on the DS
  • Eating: saliva, if that counts?
  • Drinking: Mellow Yellow
I almost fear to write this but I'm up extremely late and for some reason this is what I intend to do with my time.

Ah the great debate! I find this hilarious. Really? Are we fighting over this? I honestly thought the two shared the same audience but maybe I'm mistaken.

The characters:
Three little misfits against stereotypical hot men? That's not really fair. Sure you can say Bella is a misfit if you want but she's the biggest Mary Sue I've seen since I was 16. Don't get me wrong though. I like Twilight. I think Edward and his family are amazing characters. I just think it's more interesting if the main character to get themselves out of their own messes instead of having to wait for their hot stud boyfriend to do it for them.

Plot:
Twilight = Love. It's what it is. I like it. It's like the stories I used to write and dream about when I too was 16. Happy days. Harry Potter is about Good vs Evil and confusing the lines between them. It's more exercise for the brain. I like watching the series go from cheerful childhood to cold truth. There is just something amazing about watching a character actually grow up.

Love:
Yeah. We all know it's in both. A little more prominent in Twilight...but in both none the less. When it comes to this topic I think both series fail. Twilight fails because now we have to many girls who think Edward is the ideal male. An emotionally abusive boyfriend who stalks you. Face it loves, these two probably wouldn't love each other out of context. If his hawt vampireness didn't make him so damn attractive and her damn blood wasn't so freaking alluring they would have gone on their merry ways. I love the idea of it. That they are addicted to each other, but if girls actually think this is what love is....we've done something horrible. But Twilight isn't the only one who fails epically on this topic. Harry Potter came out less than satisfactory as well. The actual coupling in this series felt used and stupid. They never really meant anything to me. I admit I found myself never pleased because I was a huge Harry/Hermione fan. Honestly Ron and Hermione are just not actually compatible in the real world. Good thing it's fiction. Then again we don't know. They might get divorced three days after the epilogue in book seven.

Fans:
They both have insanely fanatical fans! The only main difference is most of the twilight fans want to be with Edward (or some other character) where as Harry Potter fans just like the story or want to see the characters together (I hear you DracoxHarry shippers). Both are more for the younger audiences originally but apply to older ages too. And anyone that says Harry Potter 5,6, & 7 were meant for kids...meh wutev. Your kid, your way.

Writing:
They both could have been written better. A lot of things could and should have been written better. Shut up and move on.

^.^

Now I feel better. I might sleep now. I feel surprisingly at ease.
